Transcriber's Notes

Several symbols appear in the left margin of certain catalogue entries: the equals sign , em-dash and a circular "bullet" . No explanation is given in the book for the significance of these symbols which are reproduced as the original.

A distinctive larger typeface is introduced on the title page and used to denote catalogue items donated by the Boston Philatelic Society. In this Plain Text version of the e-book this typeface is distinguished by preceding and following dollar symbols: $thus$.
